Mac takes home fifth straight SLIAC/SAAC Service Award

May 22, 2018

For the fifth consecutive year, the MacMurray College Athletic Department and the MacMurray Student-Athlete Advisory Council (S.A.A.C.) were awarded the SLIAC/SAAC Service Award at the annual St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference banquet.

"I am extremely proud of our coaches and our student-athletes.” Said Athletic Director Justin Fuhler. “This group has taken a lot of pride in winning and retaining this award for the past four years. Our department and our student-athletes have worked diligently throughout this year to make community service a top priority of our student-athlete experience. Ultimately this award is about giving back to the Jacksonville community and we are privileged to be able to do so. "

Since the inception of the award in 2013, MacMurray has won the honor every year. This year the Highlanders totaled 38,517 points topping second place Iowa Wesleyan who had 28,928 points.

Schools accumulate points based on a formula set by the SAAC committee. That formula includes 10 points per student-athlete for each hour of community service, five points for every donation item collected, one point for every dollar raised, and one point for every two cans collected.

All collections go to local area shelters while money raised during the conference's Coaches vs. Cancer competition goes directly to The Hope Lodge, an extension of the American Cancer Society.
