Professor to present paper

April 8, 2016

Chris Strangeman, associate professor of history at MacMurray College, will be attending the 22nd Annual Association of Core Texts and Courses (ACTC) Conference in Atlanta, GA later this week, where he will be delivering a paper, “Thoreau’s Walden and Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy the Silence:’ American Romanticism and the New Romanticism.” The paper gives ideas on how to get students more engaged with core texts from the Western tradition by integrating discussion of the text with the use of more contemporary music.

He is also serving as peer reviewer for the Proceedings of the 2015 ACTC conference to help determine which papers from last year’s conference will be published in the journal.

Dr. Strangeman began teaching history at MacMurray in the 2012-13 academic year. He is a 1996 graduate of MacMurray and received his master’s from Eastern Illinois University and his Ph.D. in historical studies from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2007.
