MacMurray students lobby at statehouse

May 7, 2014

Three MacMurray students took a break from finals to travel to the state capitol for Private Student Lobby Day and the MAP Matters Rally.

The students, pictured left to right with Gov. Pat Quinn, were freshman nursing major Brittany Chambers, of Meredosia, IL, the granddaughter of Betty Chambers of Meredosia; Gov. Quinn; Ellyn Fox, of Springfield, IL, a sophomore in the Interpreter Preparation Program and the daughter of Richard and Ellen Fox of Springfield; and Rachelle Dennis, of Jacksonville, a junior in social work and the daughter of Emmett and Dee Givens of Jacksonville.

In addition to meeting Gov. Quinn, the students met with the legislators who represent the Jacksonville, IL, area: Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer of Jacksonville and state Sen. Sam McCann of Carlinville, IL. The trip was organized by Director of Financial Aid Laci Engelbrecht to lobby for continued Illinois MAP grant funding and increases, if possible, to help these students and future students afford higher education.
