Local organist to perform on campus

Nichol DelGiorno, an accomplished area organist and the former college organist at MacMurray College, will perform 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at Annie Merner Chapel on the MacMurray campus. The recital is free and open to the public.
She will perform “Sonata VI” by Felix Mendelssohn; “Pastorale” from Symphonie No. 1 by Alexandre Guilmant; selections from Eleven Chorale Preludes by Johannes Brahms, and Symphonie gothique by Charles-Marie Widor.
This recital is given in partial fulfillment of the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
DelGiorno is the former college organist at MacMurray and holds the dual position as director of liturgy and music at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception/Associate Director of Music for the Springfield Catholic Diocese. At the Cathedral, her main responsibilities include providing organ music for liturgies and directing six choirs. In addition, she also serves as College Organist and Instructor in Organ and Music History for Illinois College.
A recipient of the Crystal Organ Fellowship, she is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a cognate field in musicology. She has a master’s degree in organ performance from the University of Iowa and a bachelor’s degree in music, magna cum laude, from Illinois College.
