Alumna to debut book

October 4, 2013

Patricia Bauer Burnette, of Jacksonville, a 1958 graduate of MacMurray College, will introduce her new book, James F. Jaquess: Scholar, Soldier and Private Agent for President Lincoln, about MacMurray’s first president (1848-1855), from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Kathryn Hall Lounge.

The book chronicles Jaquess’ colorful and checkered life, from his early years in Indiana, to opening MacMurray College and welcoming its first students, to his bravery in the Civil War and, after the war, through several scrapes with the law and his eventual conviction and imprisonment in England for fraud.

Dr. Burnette will introduce the book, perform a brief reading, take questions and will sign copies. A reception will follow
