MacMurray to present college comedy/drama

October 9, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, IL – The MacMurray College Theatre will present “The Shape of Things,” by Neil LaBute, on Oct. 11, Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 at the Marion Chase ShaefferTheatre, located in the Jenkins Education Complex on the east side of the MacMurray campus.

All shows are 7:30 p.m. The Thursday, Oct. 11 performance will be interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for students; entry is free for MacMurray College, Illinois College and Lincoln Land Community College students with a valid school ID.

The romantic comedy-drama, which opened in London in 2001 and was made into a movie in 2003, is a modern retelling of Eve’s seduction of Adam and explores college-age relationships and love and the ethics of artistic creation. The language and subject of the play might not be suitable for all audiences.

The play focuses on four college students at a fictional Midwestern college. The cast (pictured clockwise from bottom right) includes: Morgan McGee, a sophomore who has not selected a major, from Camp Point, IL; John Paul Anderson, Jr., a junior in Interpreting (American Sign Language) of Hinsdale, IL; Chance Allison, a sophomore in Secondary Education from Sheridan, IL; and Taylor Rae Smith, a freshman in Deaf Education and Interpreting from Decatur, IL.

The play is directed by Jenny MacMurdo Holcombe, MacMurray Visiting Instructor of Theatre, who is producing and directing her first play for MacMurray. Originally from Lincoln, IL, she holds her MFA and BFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Jenkins Education Complex is located on Hardin Avenue between Beecher and Chambers streets.
