The MacMurray and Illinois College volleyball teams donated $3,165.36 in proceeds to the Mia Ware Foundation, the proceeds of the Set, Serve and Rally for the Cure event held Oct. 23 at Wall Gymnasium at MacMurray.
"On behalf of the Illinois College and MacMurray College volleyball teams, I would like to thank the Jacksonville community and both colleges for their overwhelming support,” said Danielle Doerfler, assistant professor, MacMurray volleyball coach and director of physical education at the college. “It has been our honor to have worked in cooperation with the Mia Ware Foundation to host such a wonderful event. The girls played a spirited match, and both coaching staffs put in a lot of time and effort to publicize and organize this spectacular event,” she said. “We look forward to continuing a relationship with the Mia Ware Foundation, as both coaches have agreed to make this an annual match between the colleges. We couldn't be more proud of the amount of money raised and the overwhelming feeling of the support we have given to a great foundation and to the local fight against cancer."
The benefit game included a matchup between the crosstown rivals along with a silent auction, raffle and other fundraising activities to raise money for cancer research, treatment and a cure. Set, Serve and Rally brought in several hundred people to support the event.
