Art professor to hold solo show
August 8, 2013
Associate Professor of Art Khara Koffel will show a number of works she’s created in the past two years in “at this point in time,” a solo exhibition at the McHenry County College Art Gallery in Crystal Lake, IL.
The show, which runs Aug. 26 to Oct. 4, will include several recent sculptures, including “to you from me and back again” (pictured), a 2010 work in cotton yarn.
Her sculptures are often highly personal and reflect on her relations with friends and family. For this work, she explains, Koffel purchased the cotton yarn for her grandmother’s last birthday present, but due to her grandmother’s death soon afterwards, the yarn remained unused until the creation of this piece.
Koffel has exhibited her work widely in the United States, with one-person exhibitions or pieces accepted in juried shows in Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Maryland, Alabama and California.
In 2000, she received her bachelor's in Studio Arts and Art History from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, and, in 2003, an MFA in sculpture and photography from the University of Alabama. See her Web site here.
