MacMurray places high in national ranking
August 26, 2013
MacMurray College was ranked No. 18 in the Washington Monthly magazine’s 2013 annual rankings of baccalaureate colleges in the country. According to the September/October issue, available today, the rankings are intended to measure how much a college or university gives back to the country.
To gauge that effect, the magazine based its rankings on such criteria as social mobility, research and service. The magazine uses several measures to gauge these three criteria. For social mobility, as an example, the magazine determines a college’s admissions of low-income students and its ability to help those students achieve their degrees.
This was the second year in the past three that MacMurray was placed in the Washington Monthly’s Top 20. In 2011, MacMurray was ranked No. 14 in the country, slipped out of the top 20 in 2012 and returned this year
“Washington Monthly’s ranking of MacMurray as No. 18 in the nation among baccalaureate colleges, reflecting how much the college ‘gives back to the country,’” said MacMurray President Colleen Hester, “underscores MacMurray’s commitment to prepare students to serve the United States of America and our Land of Lincoln.”
Other baccalaureate schools that placed in Washington Monthly’s Top 20 are Tuskegee University in Alabama, Cooper Union in New York City, Augustana College in South Dakota and Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL. Washington Monthly also ranked schools in other categories, such as liberal arts colleges, national universities and master’s universities.
