Highlanders Host "Set, Serve, and Rally for the Cure"

October 25, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, IL -- In honor of breast cancer awareness month, the MacMurray College volleyball team hosted a Set, Serve, and Rally for the Cure match Oct. 23 to benefit breast cancer research. MacMurray College, in conjunction with Illinois College, created the events of the evening as well as organized a silent auction of items donated from local Jacksonville businesses.

All proceeds from the evening go to the Mia Ware Foundation, a local non-profit organization that helps support the fight against cancer.  The foundation was started to keep the memory of Mia Ware alive and to continue her wish for cancer education and research.  Ware, a Jacksonville native, lost her battle with breast cancer in 2004, but the Foundation lives on by helping people in the community.

“We are so honored to have had the pleasure of working with the Mia Ware Foundation to help locally raise money and awareness of breast cancer.  This entire process has been humbling and exciting to my entire coaching staff and players”, said head volleyball coach Danielle Doerfler. We appreciate everyone's support for the event and we look forward to continuing this tradition with Illinois College in the future.

The evening consisted of a silent auction, serving games between match sets, raffle drawings, and the selling of pink t-shirts and sweatshirts that recognized Mia Ware’s Foundation and the match.  This match marks the first of an annual tradition between MacMurray and Illinois College.
