Volleyball receives SLIAC honors

November 10, 2013

Two MacMurray College volleyball athletes received St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) honors.

Sammy Jo Petefish was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team.  Petefish is a senior Social Work major from Ashland IL, and the daughter of R.L and Holly Petefish of Ashland.  “Sammy Jo has been such a solid presence for us the last two years, it was nice for her to notch her mark with the conference coaches and earn their respect.  Last year she was honorable mention, so being second team this year speaks to her and the team’s improvement from last season,” said Head Coach Danielle Doerfler.

Alexa Boyer was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.  Boyer is a sophomore nursing major from Fairfield, IL.  She is the daughter of John and Stacie Boyer of Fairfield.  “Alexa is a great leader and representative of our program both on and off the court,” said Doerfler.  “Alexa displays great sportsmanship not only to her teammates and coaches, but greatly respects the other teams in the conference.  She was a classic choice for this award.”
