MacMurray professor attends conference
April 11, 2013
Jill Parsons, assistant professor of nursing, recently traveled to Chicago, for the Midwest Nursing Research Society’s (MNRS) 37th Annual Research Conference. The conference, held March 7-10, had more than 1,200 participants.
Parsons submitted an abstract "Fear of Falling in Long-Term Care," and it was accepted for a poster session on March 8. The abstract was one part of her doctoral dissertation research that she is completing at Saint Louis University, in St. Louis, MO.
“Fear of falling (FOF) has emerged as a prevalent issue and risk to the health of older adults, however, less is known about FOF among long-term care elders,” explained Parsons. “The aim of the study was to explore fear of falling and fall concerns from the perspective of both long-term care residents and staff caregivers directly involved in the resident's care.”
Parsons received a MacMurray faculty travel grant to be able to attend this conference and to present at the MNRS Annual Research Conference. The MNRS Annual Research Conference provides opportunities to attend nursing research poster discussion forums, paper and symposia sessions, and research section meetings.
