MacMurray College students, faculty, and staff, along with members from the American Legion and AMVETS Post 100, gathered on Rutledge Lawn Friday morning in honor of Veterans Day.

Eric Swenson, Director of External Relations at MacMurray and a U.S. Army Veteran, began the event by speaking on the history and importance of Veterans Day. Jim Duncan, Commander of Jacksonville AMVETS Post 100, led the flag-raising ceremony with the help of many local veterans, and together the crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance. A cannon blast, rifle salute, trumpet tribute by Pastor John Hume, and singing of our National Anthem, led by staff member Joanne Ford, highlighted the event which concluded with a reception in Henry Pfeiffer Library.

The event was a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have fought and served in the military out of a selfless love for their country and its people.
