Khara Koffel, associate professor of art at MacMurray College, had five pieces of artwork accepted for the Art Saint Louis “Honor Awards 2016” starting on June 18.

Koffel’s five works were among the 56 artworks by 10 artists that were selected for the exhibit by Terry Suhre, research professor and gallery director of Gallery 201 at University of Missouri St. Louis. The show saw 26 artists submit more than 200 works for consideration. Only artists who have received merit awards in the prior exhibition year at Art Saint Louis were eligible for submission.

Five of her pieces of artwork will be on display, including “damage is easily done (two for the hearts, two for the feet)” (pictured), made of bullet casings and pulped Mother’s Day cards.

“The idea of motherhood can be daunting both from an inside perspective and an outside one,” said Koffel.

The “Honor Awards 2016” exhibit will be presented in the Art Saint Louis Gallery from June 18 to July 21. A free reception will be held June 18 from 6-8 p.m.
