Derek Marin (pictured right), an environmental biologist working in Africa, will be talking about his work at the Sami Beekeeping Association in the Gambia, West Africa, on Friday, April 15 at noon in the Bailey Auditorium at Julian Hall.
A group of MacMurray biology students got a firsthand look at Marin’s work when they toured the Sami center and met Marin during a trip to West Africa in 2014.
The Sami Beekeeping Association is a community conservation effort, with people in the area working to preserve natural resources while, at the same time, profiting from their efforts.
Marin earned his bachelor’s in environmental science at Illinois College and is a member of the Peace Corps. He also received his master’s in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Science from Texas A&M University.
