Highlanders sweep Principia

Highlanders came out on fire in the top of the first scoring four runs to take an early lead. Amanda Petersen and Shayla Boen both with an RBI single. Principia shut down by Highlander defense and the Highlanders remain up 4-0 going into the second. Highlanders continued the streak and ran in two more taking a 6-0 lead. Principia remained unable to answer and the Highlanders continued to trail ahead scoring three more in the third. Principia put a run on the board in the fifth as Noelle Shoemake doubled with an RBI. Highlanders took the victory with a 9-1 score.

Entering the second game both teams were scoreless after the first. Top of the second, Calynn LaGesse tripled to bring home Kerigan Horn. LaGesse would then score by error on the left fielder and the Highlanders were on top 2-0. Principia got back in the game bottom of the third, scoring three runs to take their first lead of the night up 3-2. Shoemake doubled bringing in two runners, and AC McMullen hit an RBI single. Highlanders were scoreless in the fourth and Principia continued to trail ahead scoring one. Top of the fifth Kiersten Hann gets in as Marisa Harris reaches base by a fielder’s choice and Jaimey Watrous is safe at second due to an error on the second baseman. Petersen singled to bring home Watrous, Horn doubled for two RBI’s and the Highlanders were back on top 6-4. Entering the bottom of the seventh with the same score, Principia had one last chance to take the win. Samantha Bronkar hit a single RBI to decrease the deficit to 6-5. Highlanders sealed the deal as Watrous struck out the last batter winning 6-5.



Watrous led going 5-for-8 with three runs and two RBI’s. Horn went 3-for-7 with two runs and two RBI’s. Boen also added two RBI’s going 2-for-6 on the day.


Shoemake went 2-for-5 for the Panthers with three RBI’s.
