Highlanders split with Red Devils

HOW IT HAPPENED

Eureka opened up the game strong scoring three runs in the first. Highlanders got on the board in the bottom of the first as Drew Johnson homered bringing the score to 3-1. Top of the second Nick Passini singled for the Red Devils to bring home Josh Mead, and the Red Devils led 4-1. Highlanders trailed back with two runs in the bottom and followed 4-3. Eureka would continue to pull ahead in the third scoring two from Ray Vogel and Grant Mullin. Highlanders unable to answer for the next three innings and Eureka would take an 8-3 lead until bottom sixth. Collin Antoine singled to bring home Cortez Luttrell, and Drew Johnson singled bringing home Brendan Pesko and Antoine. The Highlanders trailed 8-6 entering the seventh, but the Red Devils held them to the end of the game taking an 8-6 win.

Defensively stronger in game two, Highlanders did not allow a hit in the first with Dillon Hodges on the mound. Bottom of the first, they pulled ahead with three runs. Eureka answered in the top of the second with two runs when Vogel homered and brought in Seth Aydt. Highlanders continued the lead in the bottom second with two more runs scored, up 5-2. Eureka would score two runs in the third and one run in the fourth, but could not keep up with the Highlanders. MacMurray pulled ahead taking a 15-5 lead ending the game within seven innings

 

FOR THE HIGHLANDERS 

Johnson led for the Highlanders today going 5-for-9, two homeruns, four runs total and five RBI’s. Antoine went 4-for-8 with three runs and three RBI’s. Pesko also went 4-for-8, scoring two runs and 1 RBI.

FOR THE FOES

Passini went 4-for-8 for the Red Devils, scoring one run and adding two RBI’s. Mullin went 3-for-5 with one run and four RBI’s.
