Three Highlanders win conference honors

On Thursday, Feb. 25 the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) awarded notable men’s basketball players with All-Conference honors between games of the SLIAC tournament. The Highlanders finished in first place earning SLIAC regular season champions, with an overall record of 15-11. Earning individual honors were Deavis Johnson, Brent Long, and Kollin Keltner.
Johnson (left in picture) was chosen as Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and All-defensive. He was top three in the SLIAC for rebounds per game, minutes played, and total blocks with 33. Johnson scored 419 for the Highlanders and also grabbed 274 rebounds. The East St. Louis native will also be added to the MacMurray record books after joining the 1000 point club.
Long (right in picture) was named to First Team All-Conference. This year he was the only Highlander athlete to be named SLIAC Player of the Week two times. Long led his team in scoring with 530, which was the second highest in the conference this year. Long averaged 20.4 points per game and grabbed a total of 185 rebounds.
Keltner was named to the All-Sportsmanship team. The senior captain recorded 225 points, 57 rebounds, and 75 assists. Keltner was also a top 10 SLIAC three-point shooter going 48-for-179.
