Markusic leads Highlanders past Blackburn

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Highlanders quickly took a seven point lead early in the first as Kayla Horlacher and Andie Marvel sunk a three pointer each. Blackburn unable to overcome the deficit and the Highlanders took advantage, taking the first quarter with a 26-14 score. Danae Smith put the Beavers back in the game as she opened up the half with a jump shot. The Beavers trailed by 10 points two minutes into the second quarter, but this would be the closest they could get to the Highlanders. Brianna Markusic led the Highlanders in the second half with a double-double; 32 points and 12 rebounds. The Highlanders finished strong winning 84-58.
 

FOR THE HIGHLANDERS 

Markusic led shooting 32 points, and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Horlacher added 15 points, 1 assist, and 1 rebound.  

 

FOR THE FOES

Aleisha Stiltner led her team with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Danique Smith added 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

 

 

Next action for the Highlanders comes Saturday, Jan. 30 as they travel to take on conference opponent, Principia College.
