Add/Remove a Website to Compatibility Mode in Internet Explorer

Compatibility mode is used to display websites according to older browser standards. If a website is not displaying properly in Internet Explorer, compatibility mode may be the reason. Be aware that some websites need to be viewed in compatibility mode to function properly, while others break when viewed in compatibility mode. Adjust your settings per domain/website as needed.

  1. In Internet Explorer, navigate to the page you would like to add to compatibility mode.
  2. Open the Tools menu.
  3. Select "Compatibility View settings."

  4. In the new window that opens, the domain or address of the current website should be populated in the "Add this website:" text box. If not, type it in.
  5. Click "Add" and the domain/website will be added to the list.

  6. Click "Close."
  7. The website will auto-refresh and be displayed using compatibility mode.
  8. To remove a domain/website, click on the name of the domain/website in the list that you'd like to remove and click "Remove."

  9. Click "Close."
  10. The website will auto-refresh and be displayed normally.
