Serving is a family affair for the Fenders. MacMurray College Alums Mike Fender '83 and Beth Gallegly Fender '91, along with their three children — Micah, Jonah, and Anna — are active members of their community serving their church, local non-profit organizations, and community schools. All this would keep any family on the move, but the Fenders do not stop there.

Since returning to Jacksonville, Illinois when Mike was appointed to serve as pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Mike and Beth have greatly increased their gifts to Mac. For years, they have actively served their alma mater in a multitude of ways, giving time, talent, and treasure. Mike is currently serving as a member of MacMurray's Alumni Board, a position that he has served in previously, assisting with Homecoming and Alumnae Weekend events, alumni gatherings, and award recognition presentations. As a family, the Fenders have graciously hosted the Livewire Caller Celebration Dinner for the last two years. They have warmly and personally thanked the Mac student participants for their hard work fundraising for the College by opening up their church home and cooking a celebratory feast.

In addition to these strong showings of support, the Fenders have made a unique financial commitment the College. In 2006, Mike and Beth desired to reaffirm their commitment to Mac and increase their monetary gifts by setting up a sustaining gift. They took just a few minutes of their time to get in touch with the Office of Institutional Advancement and create a plan that provides a continuous stream of support to MacMurray. They choose to give to the general operating fund through automatic, electronic transfers. Without so much as writing a check or even pressing a button, every month they personally help cover the cost of student scholarships, academic programming, campus maintenance, staff and faculty salaries, athletics and student recreation, and so much more.

While their journey as a pair began at MacMurray College, Mike and Beth Fender have gone on to obtain advanced degrees and build successful careers that they believe in, all while raising three children. They credit MacMurray as the platform on which much of this success was built and feel that just giving acknowledgement is not enough. The Fenders, as a family, have committed themselves to ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to be profoundly influenced by their beloved alma mater, MacMurray College.
