MacMurray College student-athletes Morgan Hauser and Mason Rowe have been named the Highlander student-athletes of the week based on their performances last week. Hauser is an outside hitter on the Highlanders’ volleyball team; while Rowe is a forward on the men’s soccer team.
Hauser, a junior transfer from Lincoln Land Community College, led the Highlanders’ to a 2-1 overall record and 2nd-place finish at the Monmouth College Tournament on Saturday. She recorded 40 kills in three matches, including a match-high sixteen kills in a five-game win over Lincoln Christian University.
"Morgan had a great start to her Highlander career this weekend and that led to a successful tournament for our entire team,” said MacMurray head coach Danielle Doerfler. “She was in double digit kills all three matches and her offensive production really provided our team with a spark.”
Rowe, a senior forward from Marseilles, IL, recorded a hat-trick in the Highlanders’ 3-1 win over Northland College (Wis.) on Sunday at home. His three-goal performance helped MacMurray College earn their first win of the 2014 season; and earned him SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors this week.
“Mason played extremely well in our opening weekend,” said first-year Highlander soccer coach Bill Koepen. “Anytime a player scores multiple goals in a game, they are impacting their team tremendously and Mason’s hat trick against Northland College displayed his creativity, strength, resolve, and skill.”
