The MacMurray College baseball team got solid pitching and timely hitting Friday afternoon in a 7-2 conference win over Westminster College.
Dryden Craven went the first five innings for the Highlanders, followed by the pitching quartet of John Brockhouse, John Hilliard, Austin Jones and Kyler Smith.
Trailing 1-0 after 5.5 innings, the Highlanders scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after two outs. Coach Justin Fuhler's club padded their lead with three runs in the seventh.
Alec Quandt went 2-3 and plated the first two Highlander runs with a double in the sixth. He cleared the bases in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to left field that ended up scoring three runs on a throwing error by the Blue Jays' catcher. Quandt paced the Highlanders with three runs batted in and also scored in the sixth inning.
Josh Jokisch went 2-4 with a triple to lead off the seventh and a run scored. Jeremy White added an RBI double, Dillon Hodges had an RBI double and a runs scored, and Jake Walch went 1-4 with an RBI.
The Highlanders improve to 10-20 overall and 6-15 in SLIAC play; while Westminster College is now 15-9 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
The conference series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader at Don Timm Field; with game one beginning at noon.
Tomorrow is also SLIAC Help "Can" Hunger food drive day. Fans are encouraged to bring canned foods or monetary donations. Bring two cans or donate $1 and get a Smoothie King smoothie at the games.
