Highlanders unable to stop Knox bats

The Knox College Prairie Fire pounded out 20 hits this afternoon at Lenz Field to defeat the Highlanders 14-4.  The Highlanders worked through 6 pitchers and stayed strong through 8 innings, but were unable to shut down the Prairie Fire offense.   

Sophomore John Hilliard (1-1) took the loss for the Highlanders.  Hilliard threw 3 and 1/3 innings, and gave up 5 runs, 3 earned.  He gave up 8 hits and had 2 strike outs, and no walks.

Alec Jordan got the win for Knox, going 2 innings on the mound, giving up 2 hits and no runs. 

Freshman shortstop Ryan Kiernan led the Highlander offense going 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.  Junior catcher Aaron Krummrich was 1 for 4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.  Also with RBIs were freshman Jake Walch and sophomore Connor Grummich. 

For the Prairie Fire, Phil Tallman was 4 for 6, and Paul Sanders was 3 for 4.  Ryan Weitendor hit a home run. 

The Highlanders return to action Thursday at 2:00 pm at home against Robert Morris University of Springfield.
