Coach James and the Highlanders pick up their first win

MacMurray College defeated Principia College 64-40 tonight in Bill Wall Gymnasium.  “I’m very proud of the effort our women gave tonight.  Their dedication and hard work has paid off.  It’s a great feeling to pick up the first win of the season, and we are going to get right back to work,” said Head Coach Derek James, who picked up his first victory as a head coach this evening. 

Forward, Megan Duisen led the Highlanders tonight with 17 points, she also chipped in 5 rebounds, 1 block, and 2 steals.  Duisen also went 5-6 from the charity stripe tonight.  Breezy Walton added 10 points and 7 rebounds on the night.  Cydny Saxor added 9 points.    

The Highlanders out-rebounded the Panthers 43 to 27.  Highlander defense also force 23 turnovers, including 15 steals.    

For the Panthers, Karina Olsen and Spencer Randolph scored 10 points apiece to lead the Principia offense. 

The Highlanders are now 1-10 overall and 1-4 in SLIAC play.  The Panthers drop to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the SLIAC.  The Highlanders return to action Thursday at Westminster.
