The MacMurray College men's basketball team played their season finale Tuesday, February 9th against Eureka College. The contest in Bill Wall Gymnasium decided which team would go on to the conference postseason tournament. The Highlanders could not keep their season alive and were beat 47-52 in a nail biter.
Both teams asserted themselves defensively and points were very difficult to come by. The Highlanders spread the ball around and had balanced scoring across the board. They were able to recover from a slow start and trailed only 21-25 after the first half.
MacMurray's energetic crowd was entertained as the Highlander's went toe to toe all night with the Red Devils. The score was close down the stretch with both teams fighting to extend their seasons. In the end though Eureka was able to out muscle the Highlanders. Senior Mark Lessen dominated for the visiting Eureka Red Devils with his 19 point, 9 rebound performance. The victory moves the Red Devils into the SLIAC postseason tournament and ends the Highlanders season at 13-12, 10-6 in the SLIAC. Congratulations to the Highlanders on a winning season.
