The MacMurray College women’s basketball team won their 5th consecutive game Wednesday, February 13th. Conference opponent Blackburn College came into town and was defeated in overtime 75-68.
The first half saw both teams trying to find a rhythm offensively. The Highlanders turned to seniors Amy Radford and Rachel Yeast to get the ball rolling. The Beavers of Blackburn stuck around though and the game was all tied up at 29 going into the half.
Blackburn made the first run coming out of halftime, but the Highlanders would fight back. MacMurray answered with a run of their own and a pair of big three's late in the game by senior Whittney Wade helped the Highlanders send the game into overtime. In overtime Mac cranked up their defense a notch. The Beavers were held to just 22% shooting from the field in the last five minutes. MacMurray out lasted Blackburn en route to a 75-68 victory.
Four Highlanders scored in double digits and Mac won the rebound margin 22-36. The win marks their fifth straight and puts them at 10-12 and 7-7 in the SLIAC. Saturday, February 16th the Lady Highlanders will make a trip to Greenville to take on the Panthers in a 1pm tip off.
