The MacMurray College men’s basketball team competed in a hard fought battle against Augustana College on Sunday, December 18th. The team fought to the very end, but came up just short, falling 86-74 to the Vikings.
The Highlanders shifted the momentum their way in the last twenty seconds of the first half when freshman Kollin Keltner netted a jumper. The team trailed 43-40 at the half.
MacMurray came out flat in the second half as Augustana took an early eleven point lead over the Highlanders taking advantage of some fouls and turnovers by Mac. The team never gave up as they continued to try and close the gap against the nationally ranked Vikings. Mac tried to foul late in the game to earn more possessions, however Augustana was able to execute on free throws.
Senior Luke Bishop let the Highlanders with 15 points and went 4-9 in three point shooting. After coming back from an early season injury, junior Dylan Burton totaled 13 points in his first game of the season. Senior Cody Best snatched four steals in the contest.
The Highlanders return to action on Thursday, December 20th at home when they take on Washington University St Louis for a 7:00pm game.
