The MacMurray College women’s basketball team opened up SLIAC play on Wednesday, November 28th, with a loss to Eureka College, 91-77.
A tough first conference game for the Highlanders as Eureka was chosen preseason to top the conference standings. Mac played a solid first half with the Red Devils as they were trailing 38-32 at the half. The Highlanders were an impressive 13 for 16 in free throw shooting.
The second half was dominated by Eureka as they sprinted out to twenty point lead. But Mac never gave up and was able to cut the lead to six points with a minute to go in the game. Mac tried to foul against the Red Devils to gain more possessions, but Eureka made the clutch free throw shots at the end. After a hard fought battle, Mac let the game slip out of reach for a comeback 91-77.
Senior Whittney Wade led the Highlander offense with 20 points while senior Kelsey Anderson followed with 18 points. Freshman Vicki Bradshaw helped out with five rebounds and seven steals in the contest.
