Menís Hoops Go 1-1 in Weekend Tournament

     The MacMurray College men’s basketball team competed in the 2012 Cavallo Classic Tournament hosted by Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.

     The Highlanders topped Rust College in their opening game of the tournament on Saturday, November 17th, 73-70.  It was a tight contest throughout as Rust College took a one point lead over the Highlanders at the half, 36-35.  The Highlanders battled with Rust College in the second half shooting a solid 60.0% from the floor.  The game was tied 70-70 with a little over a minute to go.  A jumper by Sophomore Clayton Whitlock put the Highlanders on top 72-70 and then a key steal by senior Luke Bishop followed by a made free throw insured the Highlanders victory.    

     Luke Bishop ended the contest with 27 points and three steals.  Clayton Whitlock followed behind with 21 points and seven rebounds. 

     The team closed out their tournament play on Sunday, November 18th for an afternoon contest against Sewanee College.  The Highlanders came up short in the contest and took the loss 72-64.

     Sophomore Spencer Pratt led the Highlander offense with 20 points in the game while Clayton Whitlock added 10.  Sophomore Hunter Sutton led the defense with seven rebounds. 

     Congratulations to Clayton Whitlock and Luke Bishop on being selected to the 2012 Cavallo Classic All-Tournament team.
