The MacMurray College men’s basketball team opened up the 2012-13 season with an impressive win over Knox College on Thursday, November 15th, 97-67.
After a slow start the Highlanders shifted the momentum their way with about eight minutes to go in the first half. The team took advantage of some cold shooting by the Prairie Fire and maintained solid defense to build a 42-30 half time lead.
The second half was dominated by the Highlanders as they put the game out of reach for the Prairie Fire to make a comeback. The team shot 64.7% from the floor and were 7-9 in three point shots in the second half.
The Highlanders widened the gap and scored 97 points in their first contest of the year. Senior Luke Bishop tallied 19 points in the contest and was 5-8 in three point shooting. Sophomore Dylan Guthrie chipped in with 16 points in the contest. Senior Cody Best helped out offensively with six assists and four steals. Most notable for the team, they shot 66.7% in three pointers.
The win marks the first time the Highlanders have opened up their season with a win since 1999. The team travels to Webster University this weekend to take on Rust College and Sewanee in a weekend tournament.
