The MacMurray College men’s soccer team dropped their first annual Ferris Trophy soccer challenge 1-7 to Knox College.
The two colleges previously began a new rivalry this year to replace the past Mayor’s Cup match against Illinois College. The Prairie Fire got on the board with a pair of goals in the first half while the Highlanders could not spark offensively against Knox’s defense. Freshman Brayden Hutfless was in net for the Highlanders in the first period and tallied seven saves.
The Prairie Fire expanded the lead in the second half, scoring an additional five goals against the Highlanders, winning comfortably 1-7. Sophomore Connor Winking scored the only goal for MacMurray with help from sophomore Brad Wise and freshman Andy Alvarez.
The Highlanders dropped to 3-4 on the season with the loss. The team will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 22nd for a 3:30 game against Wisconsin Lutheran College.
