The mission of the archives is to preserve the records created by the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church and its churches; collect and preserve historical information of the United Methodist Church in Illinois and all its predecessor denominations to document Methodism in Illinois; preserve and maintain all items of enduring value and promote their use for research; and encourage and assist the local churches in managing and preserving their records to document church history.
About the Collections
The collections housed in the archives are records transferred from closed churches, generally membership registers, minutes of organizations or boards, scrapbooks, directories, or annual reports. We have a collection of over 3,000 photographs, slides, and postcards of ministers, churches, church events, and congregations. The library collection holds the annual conference journals from all predecessor denominations; local church histories; and books written by conference bishops, ministers, and lay people; and conference publications. We have "special collections" with church artifacts, audio, and video.
