My education at MacMurray helped me to appreciate different ways of knowing and understanding the world. I value individual difference in people and recognize how important it is to see the world as others see it even when I do not agree with their point of view.

A 1966 graduate of MacMurray College, Carole Lyon McKinney majored in psychology. She was also actively involved on campus in Honor Society and Mortar Board. Since graduation, she has often returned to campus for Homecoming and other events.

After attending MacMurray, she completed graduate coursework in school psychology at Indiana University in Bloomington. Later she worked as a staff psychologist in the Indianapolis Public Schools. In the fall of 1971, she joined the faculty of Franklin College where she continues to work today.

At Franklin College, McKinney has pursued many different roles. She has had the opportunity to teach in departments ranging from education, psychology, sociology, and women's studies. She has also supported freshman programming and academic advising. Currently she is working with the teacher education program at the College.

McKinney has also helped develop the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities. This residential high school at Ball State University is for gifted and talented students. She has also served as an advisory chair for the high school.

She has been active in other groups in her area. With the Adult and Child Community Mental Heal Center, she developed their service plan as well as served as a board member and officer for nearly 30 years. Currently, she serves as the president of the board of directors for the Center. Within her community, she has been involved with a domestic violence prevention group and shelter for many years and has also served as a local school board member.

Carol and her husband, Larry McKinney '66, have two sons.
