Ways to Give Back
All contributions should be made payable to MacMurray College. Restrictions can be indicated on the memo line of the check and/or with an accompanying note. Gifts to MacMurray are eligible for tax deductions under current IRS guidelines. You can receive additional information on how to give to MacMurray by contacting the Office of Institutional Advancement.
Online donations can be made through our secure giving site. MacMurray College accepts MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express cards.
Matching gifts count on all giving levels and are a great way to increase the amount of your donation. If you or your spouse works for a company with a matching gifts program, obtain a matching gift form from your human resources department and include it with your gift to MacMurray College.
Gifts of real estate can be accepted on an immediate or deferred basis. To learn more about gifting real estate to MacMurray College, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for details.
You may donate equipment, computer software, printed materials, food for sponsored dinners, personal property, fine art, etc. directly to MacMurray and receive an income tax deduction. You must submit an appraisal when donating fine art. All In-Kind Gifts must be approved through the Office of Institutional Advancement before gift credit can be issued.
Gifts of Stock or Securities
Gifts of stock save your taxes twice. You gain an income tax deduction and you eliminate capital gains tax. To find out about transferring stock to MacMurray College, contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for details.
Planned gifts are deferred gifts. More and more people are finding that planned giving is a desirable way to effectively maximize support of their major charitable interests. They allow the donor to make a sizeable gift to the College as part of his or her estate planning. Planned gifts usually provide tax advantages to the donor.
Honor and Memorial Gifts
Making a gift in honor or memory of a special person or event is a lovely way to share your memory or story with the MacMurray family, while positively transforming the life of a current student here at Mac.
Gifts to MacMurray College may be made in honor of a specific person (faculty member, classmate, parent, friend or someone who has inspired you), event (birthday, anniversary or special occasion), or to celebrate the life of a loved one. If someone helped transform your life, then making a gift in their honor is a great way to show your appreciation. Just be sure to indicate the full name and address of the person you wish to honor at the time of your gift and the College will notify them of your kindness.
Gifts to MacMurray College may also be made in memory of a person who has transformed the life of the donor. Memorial gifts are a beautiful and loving way to pay special tribute to a loved one. Please indicate the full name and address of the person and who you would like us to notify of your gift. If the person you are memorializing is deceased, please include the name and address of the family. No mention of the dollar amount of the gift will be made, unless otherwise indicated.

The Annual Fund has been called the "lifeblood" of an institution because it helps pay the annual operating expenses and current programs. The smaller a college's endowment, the more an institution must raise for operating funds each year to balance the budget. Contributions to the Annual Fund are used for:
- general campus maintenance;
- technological advancements;
- athletics and student recreation;
- student life programs;
- scholarships for deserving students;
- faculty and staff salaries;
- academic programs;
- teaching development;
- library expenses and purchases;
- other annual expenses.
Restricted Annual Funds
Contribute to specific needs. By restricting your gift to a certain program, department, building or initiative, your gift is used to support the area about which you feel most passionate.
Capital Gifts include gifts that are restricted to the improvement of MacMurray's buildings, athletic facilities and grounds. Like gifts to the endowment fund, there are many naming opportunities to recognize your philanthropic commitment to MacMurray College in the form of Capital Gifts.
The Endowment Fund reduces a college's dependence on the Annual Fund. Gifts given to the Endowment Fund are invested and the interest earned is used for institutional expenses and special projects. An endowed gift can be unrestricted or restricted as to how the interest will be used. There are many naming opportunities available for endowment gifts to recognize an individual's commitment to the College or to establish a memorial for a family member.
When you support student scholarships, you are directly impacting the lives of MacMurray College students by providing access to an exceptional liberal arts education that ignites a passion for learning. Support for scholarships can come in three forms:
- Establish a new named endowed scholarship. Endowed scholarships are scholarships that are awarded to recipients through the interest gained. An endowed scholarship creates a permanent legacy for MacMurray students. While gifts to an endowed scholarship fund remain untouched, a portion of the income earned from the fund finances student scholarships. The minimum to create a new named endowed scholarship is a current or future gift or pledge of $20,000.
- Give to an existing endowed scholarship. MacMurray College has many endowed scholarships that transform the lives of current students, and you can do the same by designating a gift of any size towards an existing endowed scholarship.
- Give to the MacMurray General Annual Scholarship Fund. If you do not have a specific scholarship you are interested in giving to but know that helping current Mac students through financial support is the best way to give back to Mac, then giving to the General Annual Scholarship Fund is the fund for you. Gifts of any size support annual scholarships for worthy and deserving students.

Q: Can I make my gift with a credit card?
A: Yes. The Office of Institutional Advancement accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Credit card gifts can be made on our secure giving site, over the phone or through a mailed pledge reply card.
Q: How do I make a gift of stock?
A: There are two common methods of gifting securities to MacMurray College. The first is electronic transfer through which your broker can transfer shares directly to the College's brokerage account. Please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for account details.
The other is physically mailing the paper certificates to the MacMurray College Office of Institutional Advancement. Either method is acceptable, but it is necessary for you to contact your broker to initiate the transfer.

Regardless of the method chosen to deliver a gift of stock, the donor needs to provide for us some information about the gift for audit and acknowledgment purposes.
Call, send a letter or send an email to communicate the information below at the time of transfer:
- donor's full name and complete address;
- name and number of securities transferred;
- name of brokerage house used;
- date of requested transfer;
- specific gift designation.
Q: What is planned giving?

Q: Are international donations accepted?
A: Yes. MacMurray College accepts both checks and credit cards from alumni and friends living internationally.
Q: Are donations tax-deductible in the United States?

A: Anyone who donates a gift of any amount will receive a receipt from the Office of Institutional Advancement.
Q: What if I need a duplicate receipt?
A: Please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement, and we would be more than happy to assist in getting a duplicate receipt for you.
Q: How quickly will my donation be processed?
A: Donations are typically processed within a week of receipt.
Q: How does the corporate matching gift program work if my employer matches gifts?
A: It's easy! All you have to do is pick up a form from the personnel/human resources office of your employer. Once you have filled out the form and sent it to MacMurray College's Office of Institutional Advancement, we will take care of the rest. Matching gifts count toward all giving levels.
Q: Can I make a confidential donation?
A: Yes. Please let us know if you wish that your gift remain anonymous.

When you make your gift to MacMurray College, please include the name and address of the person you are celebrating. If the person is deceased, include the name and address of the family. When we receive your gift and accompanying notification information, we will send a memorial letter to the individual or his/her family telling them of your thoughtful gesture. No mention of the dollar amount of the gift will be made.
Q: Who determines how MacMurray College funds are used?
A: The donor, by specifying to which fund they wish for his/her donation to go. There are many funds to which you can apply your donation, with many individuals choosing to support academic departments, scholarship funds or other causes. However, in most cases the donor elects to make an unrestricted gift. Unrestricted gifts benefit the College by allowing MacMurray flexibility in directing the gift to help students with worthy programs and improve the educational quality of the institution, where it is deemed the most needed.
IRS regulations stipulate that charitable contributions toward student organizations, where moneys are not regulated by the College, are no longer tax deductible. On behalf of MacMurray College students, your support over the years has been very much appreciated. MacMurray College welcomes your continued support of the General Organizations Fund as the College must continue to offset the funds needed to operate student organizations.
Q: Can I make a contribution in installments?
A: Yes. The most convenient way to give in installments is to provide the Office of Institutional Advancement with your credit/debit card information, and we will automatically process your gift monthly, quarterly or however you'd prefer. It is fast, easy, and you don't have to worry about sending anything in or spending money on stamps.

A: A gift of at least $20,000 can establish an endowment, which is a fund that is invested to fund programs in perpetuity. The principal remains intact, and interest earned by the endowment is used to fund the designated programs or scholarships.
