Welcome to Parents
I would like to welcome all parents to MacMurray College and explain a little bit about our Health Services. The Health Services Office is located in the Gamble Campus Center, within the Office of Student Affairs. I am here Monday through Friday during the academic year. I provide health education and one-to-one assessment on a walk-in basis. Over-the-counter medications can be administered for minor illnesses such as colds, sore throats, fever blisters, minor cuts, allergies, and mild gastrointestinal disturbances. Your student will also be referred to a qualified professional (i.e. dentist, physician, hospital, counseling services) when appropriate. Please know that confidentiality in regards to your student's visits is always maintained.
If your student does need to seek outside care, please make sure that they have your insurance information with them. This may include an actual card or a photo copy of both sides of your insurance card. If your student needs to fill prescriptions or see a physician, please check with your insurance company to see if you need to send a copy of their schedule or other items as proof of your child's college enrollment. Some companies require you to send this every semester. Many insurance companies issue new cards on a yearly basis and if your student has the old card, pharmacies will not be able to process their order.
Entering college is a traditional landmark that goes beyond leaving home. You will no longer be personally responsible for attending to the daily health care needs of your son or daughter. Your student's college years are the time for him or her to learn the process of self-care and good health practices. With proper parental guidance, and the services we offer, your son or daughter will be well on his or her way to a state of optimal health - physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually, and spiritually.
