Career Services Information
MacMurray's Career Center is located in the Education Complex, rooms 108-109. The Career Center includes the office of the Coordinator of Career Services, the Career Library, and other resources related to career services.
The Coordinator of Career Services is available for all career-related matters. Some of the services provided include advice on résumé writing, help in arranging internships, assistance in creating credential files, interview practice and tips, and career counseling. In addition, the Coordinator arranges job fairs, provides information on graduate school testing dates, and provides job leads. The Coordinator can help any student make the transition from college graduate to successful career person.
The Career Library contains information essential to students' career success. Students may check out books which will assist with résumé and cover letter writing, job searches, and career development. Also available are graduate school testing applications and information, as well as testing information for positions in federal agencies.
The Focus Program is a computer-guided career search program located in the Career Center. Students enter answers to questions about career interests and skills; the program shows them occupations that they may be interested in pursuing. As a starting point for students who are uncertain or undecided about their careers, there is no better program. Coupled with the personal approach of our career counseling, students are well on their way to successful careers. In addition to the Focus program, the Coordinator has other testing materials, such as John Holland's Self-Directed Search. This search assists students who need some insight into appropriate career fields.
The Career Experience Program helps students to gain hands-on work experience in their fields during their college years, while gaining academic credit for their efforts. Students work for a semester or during the summer at a business or agency, applying what they have learned in the classroom. These experiences help students make contacts in their field of study and learn from their supervisors in the actual work environment. The combination of work experience and credit hours makes the Career Experience Program an attractive option for MacMurray students.
