Web Programmer

MacMurray College was founded in 1846 and is a four-year career-oriented liberal arts college located in Jacksonville, Illinois. The College has a culturally diverse student body of 700, and a student/faculty ratio of under 15:1. Majors are offered in 28 liberal arts and career-oriented fields.

MacMurray College seeks applications for the position of Web Programmer. Reporting to the Information Technology Manager, the Web Programmer’s role is to maintain and update the college website.

Responsibilities include:
• Maintain a consistent web site architectural structure
• Ensure a consistent look and feel across web sites by using uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, and layout by creating and using appropriate templates to assist authoring
• Implement enhancements and modifications to the web site
• Hold regular meetings with the website committee
• Gather and update information provided by content providers
• Identify, recommend, and prioritize new website features and applications in conjunction with department managers and website committee
• Test new pages and applications for functionality and efficiency
• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing Web servers, applications, and pages • Create and maintain e-commerce based areas including online giving
• Maintain web-based servers including SharePoint and Moodle
• Create and maintain archives for web site templates and images
• Develop and implement graphical and multimedia components into the website
• Adhere to web site appropriate use and privacy policies
• Adhere to web accessibility standards
• Implement and adhere to regular web site maintenance policies and procedures, including end user content change requests and posted update/maintenance schedules, to ensure site accuracy and timeliness
• Monitor, analyze, and report on web site traffic
• Analyze, report on, and take action on web site user feedback
• Conduct research into current and emerging Web technologies in support of website development efforts

Position requirements include:
• College degree in the field of computer science (or related discipline) and/or five years equivalent work experience
• Advanced programming experience with HTML
• Strong understanding of other Internet programming languages (JavaScript, ASP, PHP, CSS)
• Working knowledge of web authoring, development, and publishing tools, including Dreamweaver 8, Microsoft FrontPage and Expressions
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Web Technologies such as Server 2003, IIS, and .NET platforms is preferred
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Collaboration Technologies such as SharePoint and Office is preferred.
• Strong understanding of communications and customer service principles
• Experience with computer graphic and multimedia design
• Good written and oral communications skills
• Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
• Highly self-motivated and directed
• Keen attention to detail
