Computer and Network Access
Please read and review the MacMurray College Student Computing Resource Guide as it details steps needed to access the network.
Preparing Your Computer to Access the MacMurray Network
If you plan on bringing a personal computer to campus with you, you should be aware that your computer will need to meet certain requirements before you are allowed access to the MacMurray network. Supplies needed and requirements to fulfill include
- Ethernet card or built-in port (sometimes referred to as a network interface card or NIC)
- 1 standard RJ-45 Ethernet cable (sometimes referred to as a patch cable; MacMurray College will not supply students with these cables, but they can be purchased at the bookstore)
- Software provided by MacMurray
- Persistent Security Agent (A program that will automatically download once connected to MacMurray’s network, the Agent will periodically scan your computer to verify your version of Windows or Mac OS and related updates, antivirus and antispyware products. No other data is collected.)
- Antivirus Software: Available for download once connected to MacMurray College’s network (visit the downloads page for links to this software)
- Antispyware Software (visit the downloads page for links to this software)
- The latest security patches for your operating system (Windows 95, 98, and ME are no longer supported by Microsoft and are not allowed on the MacMurray network; make sure your operating system is Windows XP, Vista, or Mac OSX)
- Removal of all peer-to-peer software (KaZaA, Limewire, BitTorrent, etc.)
- This type of software is prohibited on MacMurray’s network and will prevent full network access. The presence of this type of software at any time while connected to MacMurray’s network will disable your network access. Access will only be restored once the software has been completely removed.
For wired access, you will be prompted to register on the network through the MacMurray computer registration page as soon as you plug in your network cable and open an Internet browser. Make sure to accept any security certificate prompts that may appear during this process and to enter your MacMurray College email username (your email address without the "@mac.edu" portion) and password to login when prompted.
