Mac-appella coming to Annie Merner
Fall choir concert to feature a cappella arrangements; world premiere.
The MacMurray College Choir will take the stage 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at Annie Merner Chapel for “Mac-appella,” a concert featuring a cappella arrangements of popular and traditional songs.
Headlining the concert is the first-ever performance of “Alleluia,” written by Rebecca Newburn, a composer from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, who will be in attendance. Newburn’s work has been performed at John A. Logan College in Carterville, IL and at Emerging Composers events at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, as well as at her own recitals. She resides in Herrin, IL.
The performance will also include a wide variety of music, featuring madrigals, spirituals, pop songs and more, including the traditional “Down in the River to Pray” and the Beatles hit, “Let It Be.”
Annie Merner Chapel is on the southeast corner of College Avenue and Clay Street on the MacMurray College campus. The performance is free and open to the public.
