Social Work Program sponsors Advocacy Day
Students take annual trip to Springfield.
MacMurray College’s Social Work Program sponsored an Advocacy Day in Springfield, IL, for students as a service learning experience. Advocacy Day took place Thursday, April 11, 2013.
During the trip, social work students learned about advocacy and lobbying while meeting with and observing different legislators at the state Capitol in Springfield. The itinerary for the day began with meeting Marissa Kirby, a policy analyst at Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities. Social work students later met with legislators including Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer and Senator Sam McCann (pictured).
Joe Squillace, director of the Social Work Program, took six students on the trip, including Samantha Petefish of Ashland, IL; Rachelle Dennis of Jacksonville, IL; Bethany Hillman of Groveland, IL; Taylor Littig of Jacksonville, IL; Peper Olive of Palmdale, CA; and Dawn Gartner of Scales Mound, IL.
