MacMurray, SLU exploring MSW Program
College partnership for a Master’s of Social Work would be offered in Jacksonville.
The MacMurray College Social Work Program is developing plans with St. Louis University’s School of Social Work to be a host for SLU’s Master’s in Social Work (MSW) program.
There will be three open houses in Jacksonville and Springfield to meet with potential graduate students to gauge interest in pursuing an MSW in the area. The sessions are free and open to anyone interested in pursuing the degree.
The first sessions are in Jacksonville on Nov. 15 from noon to 1 p.m. and 6-7 p.m., both in the Social Work offices on the second floor of MacMurray Hall (corner of Clay Street and College Avenue) on the MacMurray College campus.
There will also be an open house in Springfield on Nov. 16 at 4-5 p.m. at the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault offices, 3 West Old State Capitol Plaza in downtown Springfield.
The degree will be offered as a part-time degree designed for working students who cannot participate in a full-time program, with classes offered on Saturdays on the MacMurray campus. SLU’s program allows a $200/credit reduction for its satellite campuses, which places it on par with the costs of other MSW programs in the region.
Anyone with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program would be allowed advanced standing, transferring up to 18 credit hours into the graduate program. Two separate cohorts may be offered, one of students with advanced standing; and one with students who have bachelor’s degree but do not have standing.
