MacMurray to hold 2nd Highland Games
Students participate in “traditional” Scottish competitions.
JACKSONVILLE, IL – MacMurray students will participate in the 2012 Highland Games on Friday Apr. 20, 2012. Located on Rutledge Lawn (corner of College and Clay avenues) on the MacMurray campus, the event will be from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
Types of games at the event will include a caber toss, inflatable jousting, a dunk tank, a bungee run, an obstacle course, a tug of war match, and the annual duck race in the Town Brook that runs through campus.
A special guest performer of traditional music will play beginning at 4:30 p.m. Students are encouraged to wear Scottish attire, and kilts are available for MacMurray students during the Highland Games.
“We started this event last year as a way to get the Mac community in touch with its Scottish roots, and it was a huge success,” said Cori Wagner, career services coordinator. “Though the events are not exactly what you might see at a truly competitive Highland Games competition, they are a fun way to send the students off for the summer.”
This is the second annual Highland Games hosted by MacMurray College, a spin-off of the traditional games, which are a combination of athletic and other competitions celebrating Scottish heritage. The event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Student Life.
