MacMurray to "Take Back the Night"

March 9, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, IL – MacMurray College is proud to be hosting its 13th annual

Take Back the Night Rally, 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14 in McClelland Dining Hall on campus.

The Rally focuses on ending violence that is so common in our world, including child abuse, rape, domestic violence and dating violence, racism, homophobia, and elder abuse.

The theme of this year’s rally is “Voices of Victims.” Jodi Pupillo, a licensed social worker and counselor/advocate at Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault in Springfield, IL, will give the keynote address, “Art Expressions of Survivors.”  This multi-media presentation reveals how the visual arts, crafts, and poetry can be used to help individuals cope with and heal from sexual abuse.

After Pupillo’s presentation, audience members will be invited to share their own stories. Counselors will be on hand from The Crisis Center Foundation.  A candlelight walk around Annie Merner Chapel next to the dining hall will be held at the conclusion of the rally.

Refreshments will be served.  The rally is free and open to community members who want to help end the cycle of violence
