MacMurray receives DoD award

Career Fair honored by state agency of Department of Defense.

JACKSONVILLE, IL – Col. Tom Murgatroyd and Stan Zielinski, of the Illinois Employer Support of Guard & Reserve agency of the Department of Defense, presented the Seven Seals Award in recognition of the successful Career Expo that was held in at MacMurray College in April.

“The award is in recognition of MacMurray’s leadership in putting the job fair together and a thank you from the Guard and Reserve,” said Col. Murgatroyd. The Seven Seals Award, named for the seven arms of the Guard and the Reserve, is special recognition the agency awards about a dozen times a year in the state, Col. Murgatroyd said.

 Accepting the award will be MacMurray President Colleen Hester and the expo’s organizer, Cori Wagner, MacMurray coordinator of career services. The presentation was held Nov. 9 in the Kathryn Hall Lounge on the MacMurray College campus.

 “This award is well-deserved recognition for the success of the Job Exp, which fostered the job searches of students at Jacksonville’s colleges and the searches of men and women in the community,” said Colleen Hester. “On behalf of those whose employment was served through the event I extend our appreciation to Ms. Wagner and to co-sponsors of the event from Illinois College, The Job Center, DHS – Division of Rehabilitation Services, Lincoln Land Community College, West Central Mass Transit District, Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, Jacksonville Regional Economic Development Corporation, the Jacksonville Journal-Courier and WLDS/ WEIA,” she said. This year’s Expo the largest in memory.”

 The Expo drewmore than 100 companies and 500 people to the day-long event. With funding help by the state of Illinois, the expo is the largest job fair funded by the state. It alternates its venue each year between MacMurray and Illinois College.

The exposition was sponsored by MacMurray College, Illinois College, The Job Center, DHS – Division of Rehabilitation Services, Lincoln Land Community College, West Central Mass Transit District, Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, Jacksonville Regional Economic Development Corporation, the Jacksonville Journal-Courier and WLDS/ WEIA.
