MacMurray Homecoming begins Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, IL – The theme for this year’s homecoming is “An American Homecoming.” The weekend packed with activities open to the general public will begin Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011.

 Homecoming festivities kick off with the traditional torchlight parade and pep rally.Featured events include a parade, 5K run/walk, football game and soccer games.

 

Here is a rundown of the events:

 

 Thursday, Oct. 13

7 p.m. – Torchlight Parade and Pep Rally beginning at Kendall House, which faces East Hardin Avenue just south of Routt Street. The parade will proceed to thefootball field.The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced as will the winners of the residence hall decorating awards.

Saturday, Oct. 15

8:30 a.m. – Harker 5K Run/Walk begins at the Hospitality Tent, south of the tennis courts in the center of the MacMurray campus. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.

9 a.m. – Unseen Nellie Knopf exhibit will be shown at the Applebee Gallery, located in Putnam/Springer Hall.

10 a.m. – Homecoming parade forms on State Street, east of Clay Street. This year’s parade marshals will be Rick and Laura Hall, and Drs. Wolf and Anne Marie Fuhrig. The parade heads west on State Street, north on Clay, west on Douglas Avenue, south on Church Street and east on College Avenue to conclude back at the College.

11 a.m. – Women’s soccer game vs. Webster University on the soccer field.

1 p.m. – Football game vs. Presentation College begins. Chris Skyles, alum of the class of ’81 will sing the National Anthem. The half-time show will present St. Andrew’s Society of Central Illinois Celtic Dancers.

 1 p.m. – Men’s soccer game vs. Webster University on the soccer field.

 1 p.m. – Campus tours

 8:30 p.m. – An evening with Rick and Laura Hall. Free concert open to the public. Bailey Auditorium in Julian Hall on Clay Street at the intersection of Beecher Street.

 Sunday, Oct. 16

11 a.m. Worship Service, located in Annie Merner Chapel. Services will be held by Rev. Mike ’83, and Beth Gallegly ’91 Fender.
