MacMurray to host “Highland” Games
College hosts spin-off of traditional Scottish games
MacMurray students will compete in the 2011 “Highland” Games on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. on the field between Julian Hall and Henry Pfeiffer Library on the MacMurray College Campus. Events will include hay bale jousting, where competitors will duel on top of hay bales; “Caber” toss, a contest similar to shot put where competitors throw a log or other large item; tug of war; duck racing; and a pie eating contest. A local Celtic band will provide music if the weather permits. On Sunday, April 3 students will make competition kilts in Henry Pfeiffer Library between 3 and 9 p.m.
This is the first time the College has hosted the event, a spin-off of the traditional games which are a combination of athletic and other competitions celebrating Scottish heritage. The event is sponsored by the College’s Student Affairs office.
