MacMurray grads come home

The MacMurray College Homecoming festivities kick off Thursday, Oct. 21 with the traditional torchlight parade and pep rally and continue through the weekend. With a “Mac Idol” theme, the featured events include a 5K run/walk, a parade, football and soccer games, and a performance by the College’s Holy Fools chapter.
Perhaps the capstone of the weekend is a choir reunion concert featuring alumni guest soloists and conductors with a choir of more than 80 voices of alumni and friends of the College.
Here is a rundown of the events that weekend:
Thursday, Oct. 21
7 p.m. – Torchlight Parade and Pep Rally beginning at Kendall House, which faces East Hardin Avenue just south of Routt Street, the parade will proceed to the Wall Gymnasium in the Education Complex on East Hardin Avenue for a pep rally. The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced as will the winners of the residence hall decorating awards.
Saturday, Oct. 23
8:30 a.m. – Harker 5K Run/Walk begins at the Hospitality Tent, south of the tennis courts in the center of the MacMurray campus. (Registration has concluded to participate.)
9 a.m.- 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon – Alumni Art Show open for viewing in the Applebee Art Gallery, the Putnam Center for the Arts, at the corner of Clay and State streets. Works showing are by Billie Nadeau Scott, Class of 1951, and Lillian Gischke Korous, Class of 1960. Free.
10 a.m. – Homecoming parade forms on East State Street east of Clay Street. The parade heads west on State Street, north on Clay, west on Douglas Avenue, south on Church Street and east on College Avenue to conclude back at the College.
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Activities for children southwest of the tennis courts in the center of campus. Free.
1 p.m. – Football, MacMurray Highlanders vs. Crown College at Freesen Field.
1 p.m. – Women’s soccer vs. Lincoln Christian University on the soccer field in central campus.
1 p.m. and 2 p.m. – Campus tours by the Alumni Board begin at the registration tent.
3 p.m. – Men’s soccer vs. Lincoln Christian University on the soccer field.
8 p.m. – Alumni Choir Concert, “With a Voice of Singing,” with alumni guest soloists and conductors at Annie Merner Chapel. More than 80 singers will perform a variety of selections.
Sunday, Oct. 24
11 a.m. – Holy Fools Service at Annie Merner Chapel with alumni participants joining the service as part of a Holy Fools reunion.
1 p.m. – Alumnae soccer game at the soccer field. Graduates of the College kick off with the present women’s soccer team.
