MacMurray hires coach/sports information director
Samantha Burmeister brings athletic and media experience to position.
Samantha Burmeister recently began as softball coach and sports information director at MacMurray College. As a coach, Burmeister will be responsible for on-field coaching and recruiting of the softball team. As sports information director, she will supervise the collection of student statistics, assist with website updates and provide the public with game recaps and information about MacMurray athletics.
"I am thrilled to become a member of the Highlander athletic staff,” said Burmeister. “As sports information director, I plan to immerse myself in all athletic areas at MacMurray College. As I assume the head softball coach position, I am enthusiastic about structuring a program of success, integrity, and accomplishment."
Burmeister is a native of Winter Park, Fla., and earned a bachelor’s in communication studies from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill. in May 2010. While a student, Burmeister gained experience in sports information, journalism and coaching.
“We identified Samantha very early as a potential fit for MacMurray,” said Dane Pavlovich, Athletic Director. “She has a great deal of confidence and natural skill in her ability to coach the softball team and perform her sports information duties. I am very excited to add Samantha to our energetic coaching staff."
Burmeister was a statistic coordinator for the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa Bay, Fla., and was a student assistant for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in Naperville, Ill., where she was responsible for archiving stories to the conference’s website. She was also a student worker in the Office of Sports Information at Elmhurst College.
She interned in sports production at WGN-TV in Chicago and at WESH-TV in Winter Park, Fla. She also worked at the Elmhurst College student newspaper, The Leader, where she wrote weekly sports articles. She was an assistant softball coach at Gordon Tech High School and played softball at Elmhurst College.
