Welcome, Dr. Lankford!

     Jacksonville – Dr. David Fitz, MacMurray College Vice President of Academic Affairs, announced the appointment of Kelly L. Lankford, Ph.D., as Visiting Assistant Professor of History at the college.

     Dr. Lankford has a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Oklahoma where she taught for six years. She also obtained her M.A. degree there and completed her undergraduate work in History with a minor in Chemistry at Bowdoin College. Most recently, she was a visiting assistant professor for three years at Grand Valley State University in Michigan.

     Dr. Lankford’s teaching experience includes a fall semester as an adjunct professor at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mi. Prior to that, she was a history instructor at the University of Oklahoma as well as teaching assistant.

     Dr. Lankford was recently awarded a research grant by the Maine Women Writers Collection at the University of New England. Her research will focus on the life of Josephine Peary, the wife of arctic explorer Robert Peary.

     She has taught subjects ranging from Women in the American West to Polar Exploration and has now begun to turn her professional attention toward women’s history.
